Phagwara: PlayStation 5 consoles, iPhones, laptops, luxury perfumes and cash were reportedly looted from shops at Lovely Professional University’s (LPU) Uni Mall during violent protests on September 26 and 27.
According to media reports, several shops were vandalised, with electronic goods, mobile accessories, perfumes and cash among the items reportedly stolen. Bookshops and stationery stores inside the mall were reportedly left untouched.
Shopkeepers said the stolen goods included Sony PlayStation 5 consoles, iPhones, laptops, mobile phones kept for repairs, and perfumes from brands such as Prada and Armani.
A departmental store manager reportedly said Rs 6-7 lakh in cash was stolen, while the total loss, including damaged goods and inventory, was estimated at Rs 80-90 lakh. A mobile phone shop owner claimed that goods worth more than Rs 50 lakh were stolen, including phones, accessories, headphones, charging cables and repair equipment.
Videos circulating on social media appeared to show people carrying electronic items from the mall, including a PlayStation 5 and laptop.
The incident followed student protests over sexual assault allegations on campus, which LPU has denied, calling them false and fabricated.
Police have registered a case and formed a special investigation team. The university is examining CCTV footage and has reportedly identified 30-40 students for scrutiny. The involvement of students and outsiders remains under investigation.
