NEW DELHI: A 35-year-old man was killed after a speeding SUV allegedly ran him over while he was standing by the roadside in Delhi’s Rajouri Garden area on Saturday night. The driver fled the scene and remains absconding, police said.
The victim, identified as Uday Mahato, a resident of Khyala in west Delhi, was standing with a friend when the SUV struck him. His friend narrowly escaped the collision, according to police.
Mahato was rushed to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation. Teams are working to identify and trace the vehicle involved in the crash.
Officers are examining CCTV footage from the area and questioning witnesses to establish the sequence of events. The exact cause of the accident is yet to be determined.
Mahato is survived by his wife and two children. His family has demanded the immediate arrest of the driver responsible for the incident. The police said further investigation is ongoing.
