Bhopal : Thousands of guest teachers from across the state staged a protest in the state capital on Wednesday under the banner of the Atithi Shikshak Sanyukt Morcha, accusing the Madhya Pradesh government of failing to fulfil promises made before the Assembly elections.
The teachers demanded regularisation of services, bonus marks in direct recruitment, annual contracts and better job security. They warned of intensifying the agitation if their demands were not addressed soon.
Organisation leaders said the government had promised a policy for guest teachers on the lines of “Guruji”, bonus marks in direct recruitment and annual contracts to secure their future, but no concrete steps had been taken so far.
They also alleged that the government was backing away from its promise of annual contracts, putting nearly 1.25 lakh guest teachers at risk of unemployment after April 30.
The protesters demanded priority adjustment for experienced guest teachers against vacant posts affected by transfers, promotions and direct recruitment.
They also raised concerns over faulty e-attendance systems, delayed payments and limited recognition of teaching experience in recruitment scorecards.
Many women teachers attended the demonstration with their children despite the intense summer heat, as hundreds of teachers gathered under temporary shelters to continue the protest.
