BHOPAL: Bhopal Mayor Malti Rai on Thursday inspected the Kerwa water treatment plant and directed civic officials to ensure uninterrupted water supply to residents during the summer season.
During the inspection, the mayor reviewed various units of the treatment facility and examined the purification process, including treatment of raw water with alum and other chemicals. She also assessed quality control measures at the plant.
Officials informed her that adequate water was available in all major sources supplying the city, including the Upper Lake, Kolar Dam, Kerwa Dam and the Narmada project. They said treated drinking water was being supplied systematically across the city.
Mayor also visited the water testing laboratory and reviewed procedures for monitoring pH levels, turbidity and total dissolved solids (TDS) in raw and treated water samples. She instructed officials to ensure the supply of clean drinking water with adequate pressure during the peak summer period.
The mayor said the civic body spends around Rs 710 per household on supplying purified drinking water, while only about Rs 210 is recovered as water tax from each family.
Appealing for public cooperation, Rai urged residents to avoid wastage of water and refrain from installing illegal motors on pipeline connections, saying such practices disrupt equitable distribution of drinking water.
