Indore: One car overturned and another was damaged after a high-speed collision between two vehicles at Rasoma Square on the BRTS corridor late Friday night.
Police said the accident occurred around 3 am when two cars coming from opposite directions collided at the intersection. The impact was severe, causing one vehicle to overturn twice before coming to rest. One driver sustained serious injuries, including a suspected fracture to the shoulder, and was admitted to hospital with the help of locals.
Eyewitnesses said one car was coming from the Medanta Hospital side while the other approached from the LIG area when the crash took place. The impact was so loud that nearby residents and shopkeepers rushed out of their homes and establishments.
Police said both vehicles were registered in Ujjain. During inspection, bottles of alcohol were recovered from one of the cars. Eyewitnesses also claimed that several young women travelling in one of the vehicles left the spot before police arrived. It is not yet clear who was driving that vehicle at the time of the accident.
Officials said airbags deployed during the crash, which likely prevented further serious injuries.
The Vijay Nagar police have registered a case based on a complaint filed by one of the parties. CCTV footage from the area is being examined to establish the exact sequence of events.
The incident has once again raised concerns over overspeeding and suspected drunk driving in the city.
