INDORE: More than 40 people were injured after a suspected stray dog attacked residents, hospital staff and students in Indore’s Sanwer Road area, according to media reports.
Officials said the dog reportedly entered the premises of Sri Aurobindo Hospital through a rear entrance on Friday morning and initially attacked staff members before moving through nearby localities, where several other people were bitten.
According to media reports, those injured included doctors, nurses, medical students, patients, security personnel and passers-by. More than 16 of the victims were reportedly associated with the hospital. All injured persons received medical treatment, including anti-rabies vaccinations, at Sri Aurobindo Hospital and other healthcare facilities.
Teams from the Indore Municipal Corporation launched a search operation on Saturday in and around the hospital campus and adjoining areas. Municipal officials said 25 stray dogs had been captured during the exercise, but the animal suspected of carrying out the attacks had not been identified or caught.
Media reports said the dog was sighted at several locations, including nearby villages and educational institutions, prompting concern among residents, students and staff.
Hospital authorities and local residents urged civic officials to intensify efforts to locate the animal, saying concerns would remain until it was captured.
Municipal officials said the operation was continuing and additional teams could be deployed if required. Residents were also urged to report any aggressive or suspicious stray dogs to the civic control room.
The incident comes amid growing concern over dog-bite cases in Indore. According to media reports, doctors at Government Hukumchand Polyclinic, popularly known as Lal Hospital, said the facility receives around 200 dog-bite patients daily.
