BHOPAL: A man climbed an electricity pole and walked along high-voltage power lines in one of Bhopal’s busiest commercial areas on Thursday after failing to meet postal department officials regarding his job reinstatement.
The incident occurred near a government press building in the MP Nagar area, drawing a large crowd and causing concern among onlookers. Videos of the incident were widely recorded by people at the scene.
Police identified the man as a former temporary employee of the postal department who had been removed from service several years ago following the registration of a criminal case. He had reportedly travelled from Harda to Bhopal to appeal for reinstatement.
According to police, the man visited a post office in MP Nagar on Thursday morning and attempted to meet senior officials. When he was unable to do so, he climbed the electricity pole in protest.
Authorities were alerted immediately, and police contacted the power distribution company, requesting that electricity not be restored until the man was brought down safely.
Officials later confirmed that power on the line had already been switched off due to scheduled maintenance work, preventing what could have been a serious accident.
Police cleared the area and spent nearly an hour persuading the man to come down. He eventually agreed and was brought to safety. He was taken into custody, and further inquiries are underway.
