Fraud Case Over Promise of Government Flats

GWALIOR: Police have registered a fraud case against two men for allegedly cheating a resident of Rs 11 lakh by promising to secure the allotment of two government housing flats.

The case was registered on the directions of a local court after the complainant alleged that the accused collected money over several instalments but failed to provide the promised flats.

According to the complaint, the accused assured the complainant that two flats in a government residential complex would be allotted to him. Trusting the assurance, he paid Rs 50,000 in December 2022 and subsequently made additional payments amounting to Rs 10.5 lakh. The total payment of Rs 11 lakh was made for two flats, each purportedly priced at Rs 5.5 lakh.

The complainant alleged that after receiving the money, the accused provided purported receipts showing deposits towards the flats. Documents and messages were also shared online, giving the impression that the allotment process was genuine.

However, despite the passage of time, the flats were not allotted. When the complainant sought clarification, he allegedly did not receive a satisfactory response. Subsequent enquiries led him to suspect that the receipts and other documents provided by the accused were forged.

The complainant further alleged that similar complaints had previously been made against the accused.

Acting on the court’s directions, police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and began an investigation.

Police said the authenticity of the receipts and other documents would be verified and further action would be taken based on the findings of the probe.
