Mojtaba Khamenei may skip father’s funeral over security concerns

An Iranian official has said Mojtaba Khamenei is unlikely to make a public appearance at the funeral of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, due to security concerns linked to heightened regional tensions.

The official, speaking in India, said Mojtaba Khamenei wants to attend and meet mourners but has been advised against doing so because security arrangements cannot guarantee his safety.

“They said it is very dangerous and we cannot provide security for him,” the official said, adding that he is unlikely to appear in public during the ceremonies.

The comments come as thousands of mourners and foreign delegations gather in Tehran for the state funeral. The country remains on high alert amid ongoing tensions with Israel and concerns over possible escalation in the region.

The official described the situation in Iran as one of deep national mourning, saying supporters view the loss of the Supreme Leader as significant and irreplaceable.

He also said that people gathering for the funeral are expressing solidarity and support for Iran’s leadership and its political direction.

Amid warnings of possible military action from Israel, the official said Iran remains strong and prepared to respond to any threats, adding that recent developments had strengthened the country’s position.
