Fake airline job scam busted, 11 arrested

Mumbai Police have busted a fake call centre in Dehradun that allegedly ran an online job scam targeting job seekers with false promises of employment in a private airline, according to media reports. Eleven people have been arrested in connection with the case.

According to media reports, the case came to light after a Mumbai-based woman alleged that she was cheated of around Rs 2.5 lakh after being offered a job in a private airline. She claimed she was contacted between January and February and was asked to pay multiple “processing” and “recruitment” charges as part of a fraudulent hiring process.

After transferring the money, she neither received any job offer nor any further communication from the accused. Following repeated unsuccessful attempts to contact them, she approached the police and lodged a complaint.

Based on technical analysis and sustained investigation, police reportedly traced the operation to a call centre in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. A raid was subsequently carried out at the premises, where officers suspected an organised network involved in cheating job seekers.

During the operation, police arrested 11 persons and seized nine laptops, 13 mobile phones and other electronic devices along with financial records allegedly used in the scam.

Investigators believe the group may have targeted several job seekers using similar tactics. The seized materials are being examined to identify additional victims and trace the flow of money.

Further investigation is underway to determine the full extent of the racket and possible involvement of others.
