Bhopal: Police have registered a case of gangrape of a 16-year-old mentally weak girl in the Katara Hills area of Bhopal. The two accused made a video of the incident and sent it to the victim’s brother nearly five days later.
The girl’s family reached Katara Hills police station on Wednesday night after seeing the video and filed a complaint. Officers have started an investigation under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), POCSO Act, and IT Act.
Police have taken one minor accused into custody. The second accused is on the run. Officers are questioning the minor in custody to find out if the two had targeted the girl earlier.
According to police, the girl had stopped going to school. The two boys from the neighbourhood had been pressuring her for several days to be friends and go out with them. She did not speak to them.
On 1 July, when the girl was alone near her house, the two took her to a secluded spot behind a school on the pretext of talking. They assaulted her and recorded a video on their mobile phone. Because of her mental condition, she could not tell her family immediately.
Katara Hills Station Officer Sunil Dubey said a case has been registered under BNS sections 70(2) and 351(3), POCSO Act sections 5(g) and 6, and IT Act section 67-A.
“We have taken one minor accused into custody. Teams are working to catch the second accused soon,” said the police officer.
