JALANDHAR, Punjab: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday launched rail and road infrastructure projects worth more than Rs 5,470 crore in Punjab and addressed a public rally in Jalandhar, where he outlined the Centre’s development plans while criticising the state’s ruling government ahead of the Assembly elections.
According to official statements, PM Modi flagged off new rail services linking Punjab with Ambala and Varanasi, including a direct train between Amritsar and Varanasi. He said the new services would improve connectivity and make travel easier for passengers and pilgrims.
The Prime Minister said the Centre remained committed to Punjab’s development and highlighted ongoing railway upgrades under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. He said improved transport infrastructure would support trade, tourism and economic growth. Modi also referred to the redevelopment of Jalandhar Cantonment railway station and paid tribute to Sikh leader Sardar Teja Singh Samundri on his 100th martyrdom anniversary.
During his speech, PM Modi criticised the Punjab government over issues including law and order, governance, financial management and drug abuse. He also criticised the Congress and the Shiromani Akali Dal, alleging they had failed to provide effective leadership in the state. The Prime Minister urged voters to support the BJP in the next Assembly election.
