Kejriwal Backs Wangchuk at Jantar Mantar

NEW DELHI: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday called for Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to step down and suggested that education reformer and climate activist Sonam Wangchuk be considered for the post.

Speaking at Jantar Mantar, Kejriwal expressed support for Wangchuk and the ongoing protest over concerns related to the 2026 NEET-UG examination. He urged the Central Government to engage with the protesters and consider their demands.

Wangchuk has been on an indefinite hunger strike for 19 days, calling for Pradhan’s resignation over concerns raised regarding the conduct of the 2026 NEET-UG examination and the reported paper leak issue.

Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav also visited Wangchuk at Jantar Mantar and appealed to the Centre to hold discussions with him. She urged the government to adopt a conciliatory approach and resolve the matter through dialogue.

Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court directed authorities to ensure Wangchuk’s health is monitored daily during his hunger strike. The court also said any medical treatment considered necessary by government doctors should be provided without delay.

The directions came while disposing of a public interest litigation that sought regular medical supervision for Wangchuk in view of concerns about his health during the prolonged fast.

Wangchuk, an engineer, education reformer and climate activist from Ladakh, continues his protest at Jantar Mantar as demonstrators seek greater accountability and action over issues related to the national medical entrance examination.
