Forty stray cattle shifted to cattle shelters, 10 sick and injured animals sent for treatment during citywide drive
BHOPAL, July 27: The Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) continued its drive against stray cattle on Monday, removing 40 freely roaming animals from roads and other public places across the city. Another 10 sick and injured animals were rescued and sent to the Asra Animal Hospital for treatment.
The action was carried out by the Municipal Corporation’s Govardhan Project Branch as part of its ongoing campaign to keep roads, footpaths and public spaces free from stray cattle and improve public safety.
Acting on the directions of Municipal Commissioner Sanskriti Jain, civic teams conducted a citywide operation in several areas, including Habibganj, BHEL, Piplani, Awadhpuri, Aadharshila, Barkheda Pathani, Karond Chouraha, Bhopal Memorial Hospital, Mittal College, Link Road No. 1, Link Road No. 2, Link Road No. 3, Mata Mandir, Nehru Nagar, Chunabhatti Chouraha, Shahpura, Manisha Market, Mother Teresa School on Kolar Road, Lambakheda, Jagdishpur and Bairagarh.
During the drive, officials caught 40 stray cattle and shifted them to cattle shelters (Kanji Houses). The civic teams also rescued 10 sick or injured animals and sent them to the Asra Animal Hospital, where they will receive veterinary care.
In addition, the corporation’s cattle-driving team cleared 15 animals from busy roads to reduce traffic disruption and improve road safety for commuters.
The BMC has been carrying out regular enforcement drives to tackle the problem of stray cattle on public roads. Officials said such operations will continue in different parts of the city to ensure safer roads, smoother traffic movement and better management of stray animals.
Residents have also been urged to cooperate with the civic body by not allowing cattle to roam freely on public roads and by reporting stray animal-related issues to the Municipal Corporation.
