Neha Bora denies role in CJP protest call in Delhi HC

New Delhi: All India Students Association (AISA) president Neha Bora told the Delhi High Court that she was not involved in the Cockroach Janata Party’s (CJP) protest call and had not engaged in any activity that could disturb public peace, according to media reports.

Bora has challenged a notice issued by a Special Executive Magistrate directing her to furnish a personal bond of Rs 10,000 and maintain peace. The notice followed her detention on October 16 while marching towards Mandi House. She was released the next day.

Her lawyer, senior advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan, argued that Bora had committed no offence and had not called for violence. He said a social media post announcing a gathering at Mandi House at 5 pm simply stated, “See you today at 5 pm”.

The Centre and Delhi Police opposed her petition. Additional Solicitor General Chetan Sharma argued that Bora had repeatedly violated restrictions. He said prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) were in force in Connaught Place and nearby areas.

Bora’s lawyer argued that her actions were peaceful and that the notice lacked evidence to show she was likely to disturb public order.

The court noted that the case raised concerns about personal liberty under Article 21 of the Constitution. After hearing both sides, the High Court reserved its order for Friday.

The petition challenges proceedings under Section 126 of the BNSS, which allows authorities to seek a bond to prevent a possible breach of peace.
