Bhopal Police Crack Car Scam

BHOPAL:  Police in the state capital have uncovered an organised vehicle fraud racket and arrested six people accused of illegally selling hired cars worth about Rs 3 crore.

Police recovered 20 vehicles during the operation following complaints from vehicle owners and travel agencies.

According to investigators, the accused rented vehicles from owners and travel operators, claiming they would be used for commercial purposes. They then allegedly posed as the owners and sold the vehicles using forged sale agreements and other fraudulent means.

The investigation began after a vehicle owner reported that his car had been sold without his consent after being rented out. During questioning, one of the suspects allegedly disclosed details of the operation and the involvement of other members of the group.

Police said some vehicles were sold through fabricated agreements, while others were transferred without proper documentation. The recovered vehicles were traced to several locations, including Sehore district.

Additional charges of fraud, criminal conspiracy and criminal breach of trust have been added to the case. Investigators believe the group may have sold another 15 to 20 vehicles using the same method. Efforts to recover more vehicles and identify additional suspects are ongoing.
