A 28-year-old woman in Bhopal has filed a rape case against a man, alleging that he had sexual relations with her after promising to marry her and later refused to keep that promise. Police have registered an FIR and are trying to trace the accused.
According to police, the woman is originally from Maharashtra and had been living separately from her husband because of ongoing domestic disputes. She later moved to Bhopal, where she started running a roadside food stall to earn a living.
During this period, she came into contact with a man identified as Rahul. The woman alleged that the two developed a relationship after he assured her that he would marry her.
The complainant told police that in October 2025, the accused took her to a hotel near Nehru Nagar Square on the pretext of an outing. There, she alleged, he established physical relations with her after again promising marriage.
The woman further alleged that the accused continued to have physical relations with her for nearly eight months. When she recently asked him to fulfil his promise of marriage, he allegedly refused and distanced himself from her.
Following the refusal, the woman approached the police and lodged a complaint on Saturday. Based on her statement, police registered an FIR and launched a search for the accused.
Police said further investigation is underway. The allegations have not been tested in court.
