The body bore multiple injury marks, while the woman’s husband alleged valuables were missing. Police are investigating all angles.
A 50-year-old woman was found dead at her home in Bhopal’s Chhola Mandir area on Saturday, with multiple injury marks on her body, prompting police to investigate the case from a possible murder angle.
Police identified the deceased as Mathri Bai alias Mamta Jatav (50), a resident of Kalyan Nagar. She had been living separately from her husband for the past eight years and earned a living by working as a labourer at a local vegetable market.
According to police, neighbours alerted them after the woman had not been seen for nearly two days. Her body was recovered from the house at around 3.40 am on Saturday. Preliminary findings suggest she may have died nearly 48 hours before the body was discovered.
Investigators found multiple injury and cut marks on her body, including injuries on both wrists, a deep cut behind one knee and an injury to one ear. Police said the post-mortem examination will determine the exact cause of death and whether the injuries were sustained before her death.
The woman’s husband, Munshilal Jatav, alleged that she may have been killed during an attempted robbery. He claimed that her gold earrings and some household belongings were missing. However, police said these claims are being verified and no conclusion has been reached.
Officials said no suspect has been identified so far. They are collecting evidence, questioning local residents and reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area. A murder case will be registered if the post-mortem findings confirm foul play.
The investigation is continuing.
