CM announces Jabalpur will become a metropolitan city within one year
CM Dr Mohan Yadav gave Jabalpur a series of big gifts on Saturday, announcing Rs 397 crore worth of development projects and declaring that the city will become a metropolitan city within one year. He directed officials, including the commissioner and collector, to prepare a draft proposal for Jabalpur’s metropolitan status at the earliest.
Speaking at the Geeta Bhawan grounds during a foundation-laying and inauguration event, the Chief Minister said service and good governance are the two pillars of his government. He said Madhya Pradesh has kept its promise of development, calling it a government that delivers what it commits.
Dr Yadav announced that a furniture cluster will be set up in Jabalpur. He said the city’s medical university will be developed on the lines of AIIMS as a state-level institute of medical sciences.
He also announced a new zoo near Madan Mahal hill to give tourists visiting nearby national parks a chance to see wild animals up close. Sandipani schools, he said, will come up in every assembly constituency of Jabalpur district.
The Chief Minister inaugurated three large sewage treatment plants at Kathaunda, Lalpur and Tewar, built under the Rs 362.31 crore AMRUT 1.0 sewage project. He also launched a modern laundry facility for the Rajak community in the Civil Lines area, built at a cost of Rs 25 lakh, and inaugurated a modern fish-selling centre in the Gurandi Bazar area worth Rs 2.5 crore.
Dr Yadav released a coffee table book on Jabalpur Municipal Corporation’s cleanliness survey performance and distributed digital credit cards to street vendors under the PM SVANidhi scheme.
He also launched a campaign to plant 11 lakh saplings across the district, saying trees are as important to human life as sages, and mentioned that the Miyawaki method allows 12,000 saplings to be planted on one acre of land, turning it into a dense forest within three years.
The Chief Minister said Madhya Pradesh has passed the Uniform Civil Code bill in the state assembly, adding that more than 74 percent of the 10 lakh suggestions received from citizens, including a large number of Muslim women, supported the move. He said the state has also amended old British-era laws on highways and passed a new Fire Safety Act.
On employment and welfare, Dr Yadav said more than 18,000 posts have been filled in the police department this year, along with 10,000 new teacher appointments. He added that nearly 2.5 lakh government employees across departments have received pending promotions.
The Chief Minister also spoke about wildlife conservation, saying the number of cheetahs in Madhya Pradesh has grown from 20 to 52 since their reintroduction, and that wild buffaloes have been brought from Assam, with plans to bring rhinos and king cobras in future.
PWD Minister Rakesh Singh, Jabalpur MP Ashish Dubey, local MLAs, Mayor Jagat Bahadur Singh Annu, and several other public representatives attended the event.
