General Manager Dilip Kumar Singh Conducts Wide-Ranging Inspection Of Bhopal Division
General Manager of West Central Railway, Dilip Kumar Singh, carried out a detailed inspection of several key railway premises, coach maintenance facilities, stations and rail sections in the Bhopal Division on Saturday, 8 August 2026. During the visit, he reviewed rail safety, passenger facilities, maintenance systems and infrastructure, and issued necessary instructions to the concerned officers.
General Manager Begins Inspection At Divisional Training Centre
General Manager Singh began his inspection schedule at the Divisional Training Centre (DTC), where he inaugurated a newly established Computer Based Test (CBT) centre. Officials said the facility will help conduct various railway examinations and selection processes in a more modern and organised manner.
Following this, the General Manager inspected the Intermediate Overhauling (IOH) facility and inaugurated the newly developed Integrated Coach Maintenance Facility at the site. This modern facility is expected to make coach maintenance work more systematic, effective and higher in quality.
General Manager Inaugurates Smart Pit Lighting System At Rani Kamalapati Depot
General Manager Singh inaugurated a Smart Pit Lighting System at the Rani Kamalapati Coaching Depot. The system automatically controls pit line lighting based on train presence, switching lights on as a train enters the pit and off once the train departs and the pit is empty.
Operated through smart proximity sensors and a PLC-based control system, the setup has been implemented in pit lines 8, 9 and 10 at the depot and ensures lighting levels in line with standards set by the Railway Board.
The smart lighting system is expected to save around 88,000 units of electrical energy annually, translating into estimated savings of Rs 8.27 lakh in electricity costs each year. Developed at a cost of around Rs 1.50 lakh, the system is expected to pay back its investment in approximately two months. Officials said the initiative supports energy conservation, energy efficiency and environment-friendly practices, reinforcing the Bhopal Division’s sustainable development efforts.
General Manager Reviews Rani Kamalapati-Kurawar Rail Section
The General Manager then inspected the Rani Kamalapati-Kurawar rail section aboard the Parakh inspection vehicle. During this leg of the inspection, he reviewed the track, rail assets and safety-related arrangements, and sought relevant information from the concerned officers.
General Manager Examines Bridges And Station In Rajgarh City-Byawra-Rajgarh Section
Between Kurawar and Byawra-Rajgarh, the General Manager inspected several important rail structures. He first examined Road Over Bridge (ROB)-17, reviewing its structure and maintenance arrangements.
He then inspected Rajgarh City railway station, reviewing the passenger facilities, operational arrangements and overall management of the station premises. He issued necessary directions to officers regarding improvements to passenger facilities at the station.
Following this, the General Manager inspected the Newaj Bridge, reviewing its structure and maintenance arrangements, before also examining Bridge Number 263-A.
General Manager Emphasises Rail Safety As Top Priority
Throughout the inspection, General Manager Singh instructed officials to pay special attention to the upkeep of tracks, bridges, station premises and maintenance facilities, describing rail safety as the highest priority. He told officers that regular inspection and maintenance of rail assets must be ensured in line with prescribed standards, and that all necessary work should be carried out in a time-bound manner to provide passengers with safe, smooth and improved rail services.
Officials said the General Manager’s inspection was significant for strengthening rail safety, modernising maintenance facilities, promoting energy conservation and continuing the upgrade of passenger facilities in the Bhopal Division.
Divisional Railway Manager Pankaj Tyagi, Chief Administrative Officer/Construction M.S. Hashmi, and officers from related departments were present during the inspection.
