BHOPAL : BJP supporters celebrated across Madhya Pradesh on Monday as early counting trends in multiple state assembly elections indicated gains for the party, according to media reports, while notable political shifts were seen in other regions.
Counting of votes is under way in West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry. According to media reports, early trends suggest a major upset in Tamil Nadu, where actor Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has taken an unexpected lead. In Kerala, the United Democratic Front (UDF) is projected to return to power after nearly a decade, as per early trends cited in reports.

In Madhya Pradesh, BJP workers were seen celebrating in Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior and Ujjain. According to media reports, supporters distributed snacks, burst firecrackers and danced to drum beats outside party offices.
Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav, addressing supporters in Gwalior, compared the atmosphere to major festivals and termed it a victory of “nationalism over arrogance”, according to media reports. He also criticised the Trinamool Congress leadership in West Bengal.
Union minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said he felt “emotional”, adding that a long-standing political resolve had been fulfilled, as quoted in reports.
Senior BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya appeared emotional while speaking to reporters in Indore, recalling the struggles of party workers and describing the development as significant beyond electoral numbers.
State BJP president Hemant Khandelwal claimed the Congress party was losing relevance nationally, according to media reports. Final results are awaited.
