MP To Hold National Lok Adalat On May 9; Offers Up To 100% Surcharge Waiver

Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh government will hold a statewide National Lok Adalat on May 9 to fast-track pending cases and offer financial relief to citizens through a one-time settlement scheme.

The government has announced up to 100 per cent waiver on surcharge for pending property tax, water charges and other civic dues. Officials said the initiative aims to reduce litigation and ease the financial burden on households.

Under the scheme, authorities will waive the entire surcharge for property tax dues up to Rs 50,000 and water charges up to Rs 10,000. For higher outstanding amounts, the government will offer relief between 25 per cent and 75 per cent, based on defined slabs.

The concession will apply to arrears pending up to the financial year 2025–26 and will be available only during the Lok Adalat as a one-time settlement.

The government has also simplified the payment process. Beneficiaries can clear the remaining amount in up to two instalments after availing the waiver. However, they must deposit at least 50 per cent of the payable amount on the day of the Lok Adalat.

Officials said the initiative will help citizens resolve long-pending disputes quickly and avoid lengthy legal procedures. They added that the scheme will also improve revenue collection for urban local bodies through voluntary compliance.

The state government has urged citizens to participate in large numbers and take advantage of the scheme to settle their dues.

The National Lok Adalat provides an alternative dispute resolution platform, enabling faster and cost-effective settlements. With substantial surcharge relief and flexible payment options, authorities expect a strong public response across the state.
