The Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya has got a new Vice-Chancellor after Governor Mangubhai Patel appointed Alok Sharma to the post for a four-year term.
The appointment comes at a time when the university, commonly known as RGPV, has remained under public scrutiny following a multi-crore financial irregularity case linked to its previous administration.
According to official orders, Prof Alok Sharma, who is currently serving as Director of the Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management in Gwalior, will head the state technical university based in Bhopal.
RGPV new Vice-Chancellor appointed after financial controversy
The RGPV new Vice-Chancellor appointment has gained attention because the university remained in the spotlight during the tenure of former Vice-Chancellor Sunil Kumar.
During his tenure, a financial scam involving more than Rs 19 crore surfaced at the university. Following the controversy, the state government reportedly sought his resignation. A case was later registered against him and action was initiated in connection with alleged corruption.
Officials said investigations are also continuing against the former registrar and other university officials who were allegedly linked to the case.
State government appoints members to child rights commission
Apart from the RGPV appointment, the Madhya Pradesh government also appointed two new members to the Madhya Pradesh Child Rights Protection Commission.
Sonam Ninama and Archana Gupta have been appointed as members of the commission. Earlier, Nivedita Sharma was appointed as chairperson.
With the appointments, the commission will now function with a complete panel comprising one chairperson and two members. Officials said this would help strengthen child protection, child welfare and child rights-related activities in the state.
