GWALIOR: A woman arrested in a honeytrap racket has tested HIV positive during a medical examination, police said.
The accused was reportedly undergoing treatment for the infection for nearly three years, according to hospital and interrogation records.
Police have arrested four people two women and two men in connection with the case. The gang is alleged to have trapped influential individuals, recorded objectionable videos and used them to extort money by threatening to circulate the content on social media.
Investigators said mobile phones and a laptop recovered from the accused contain multiple obscene videos, photographs and financial transaction records. The digital evidence is being analysed to identify the extent of the network and the number of victims across different districts.
A legal professional has also come under scrutiny for his alleged role in handling financial transactions linked to the extortion proceeds. His involvement is under investigation.
Following the HIV-positive finding, the case has widened beyond financial crime, with authorities assessing potential health exposure risks. Officials are determining how many individuals may have been in contact with the accused, while health authorities have not yet issued a detailed statement.
