Yashvardhan Chauhan earns India U-19 captaincy
Gwalior: Yashvardhan Chauhan has been named captain of India’s Under-19 cricket team for the upcoming Sri Lanka tour. The Gwalior all-rounder will lead the side in both one-day and multi-day formats after earning recognition for his consistent performances in domestic cricket.
Yashvardhan, an all-rounder who represents the Chambal region, has earned the leadership role after a series of strong performances in domestic cricket. He is a student of The Scindia School in Gwalior and is regarded as one of the region’s most promising young cricketers.
Another player from the Chambal region, Manal Chauhan, has also been selected in India’s Under-19 multi-day squad for the tour.
Speaking to the media after the announcement, Yashvardhan described the selection and captaincy as one of the proudest moments of his life.
“Being selected for the India U-19 team and being named captain is a moment of great pride and happiness. I have worked hard for years to reach this stage and spent most of my time practising on the ground,” he said.
Yashvardhan said the support of his parents played a major role in his journey. He has been playing competitive cricket since 2014-15 and has represented teams in several major tournaments.
Looking ahead to the Sri Lanka tour, he said the team would assess the conditions and pitches before finalising its plans.
“We will adapt to the conditions and try to perform in the best possible way for the team,” he said.
His father said the entire family was proud of the achievement. He credited Yashvardhan’s mother for her constant support, recalling how she regularly took meals to the ground during practice sessions and stood by him throughout his cricket journey.
Yashvardhan said he first received news of his selection and captaincy from Gwalior Division Cricket Association secretary Vijay Prakash Sharma. He thanked his parents for their sacrifices and also acknowledged the guidance of coach Lavkesh Choudhary of Tansen Cricket Academy.
The India Under-19 team will attend a special training camp from June 23 before leaving for Sri Lanka on June 30. The tour will feature three one-day matches and two multi-day games between India and Sri Lanka.
The opening one-day match will be played in Hambantota on July 4.
