BHOPAL: Questions have been raised over the handling of patwari transfers in Bhopal after the district administration revised a transfer list within 24 hours of its issuance, according to media reports.
The administration on June 15 ordered the transfer of 46 patwaris across the district. Many of those transferred had been posted in Huzur and Kolar tehsils for between five and eight years, while some were serving in their home tehsils.
However, a revised order issued late on June 16 removed 24 names from the original list, effectively cancelling their transfers. The revision followed the State government’s decision to extend the transfer window after a Cabinet meeting.
According to media reports, most of the officials whose transfers were cancelled were posted in Huzur and Kolar. The development has fuelled allegations that some employees used influential connections to secure relief from the transfer order.
The revised list has also prompted scrutiny of compliance with the State’s transfer policy, which limits transfers within a district to 20% of the sanctioned strength. With 243 patwaris posted in Bhopal district, the permissible limit is 47 transfers.
Media reports said complaints about long tenures had led to the original transfers. The subsequent revision has triggered demands for greater transparency and could invite examination by the General Administration Department.
