US President Donald Trump signed the agreement during a dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Palace of Versailles following the G7 summit, according to reports.
The agreement calls for an immediate and permanent halt to military operations across all fronts, including Lebanon.
Iran confirmed the signing and said the next phase would focus on implementing the commitments under the agreement.
“The text of the memorandum was finalised with the signatures of the presidents. Now it is time to test the implementation of the agreement,” Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman said, according to state media reports.
The formal signing was initially planned in Switzerland, while diplomatic discussions in Geneva are expected to continue.
The agreement comes after a conflict that lasted nearly 110 days following US and Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28, according to media reports.
Under the terms of the agreement, the US has agreed to remove its naval blockade of Iran within 30 days. The move is expected to help restore commercial shipping activity through the Strait of Hormuz.
The document also states that US forces will withdraw from areas near Iran within 30 days after a final agreement is concluded. Iran has agreed to make efforts to ensure safe passage for commercial vessels for 60 days.
The release of the agreement’s details followed questions over transparency surrounding the deal. US officials later shared the text of the memorandum during a conference call, reports said.
The agreement now enters the negotiation phase, with both countries expected to work towards a final settlement within the next two months.
