Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra on Wednesday shared a video showing an alleged egg attack during a meeting with party workers in West Bengal. She claimed she was injured in the incident and accused the police of failing to act despite being present at the spot.
The video posted by Moitra on X shows a group of people outside a building throwing eggs towards a window from where she is heard addressing party workers. People in the crowd can also be heard cheering after the eggs hit the window.
Sharing the video, Moitra alleged that BJP workers were behind the attack. She also claimed that West Bengal Police personnel were present but did not intervene.
“Currently being attacked by BJP goons with West Bengal Police watching on,” she wrote on X.
In another video message addressed to West Bengal Director General of Police Siddh Nath Gupta, Moitra alleged that a mob gathered outside a private office in her constituency where the party meeting was being held. She claimed the crowd threw eggs and stones at the building, and that she suffered injuries when she went near a window.
The TMC MP said she had informed the DGP and shared her location. According to her, police reached the spot but did not disperse the crowd and instead watched as the incident continued. She urged the police to take action and maintain law and order.
The alleged attack comes amid a series of similar incidents involving TMC leaders in West Bengal.
On May 30, TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee was allegedly targeted with stones and eggs during a visit to Sonarpur to meet families affected by alleged post-poll violence. He reported minor injuries and described the incident as political violence.
On June 15, eggs were allegedly thrown at TMC leader Kunal Ghosh outside Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s residence in Kalighat. Ghosh later filed a police complaint seeking action against those responsible.
In another incident, TMC youth leader Soumitra Banerjee was allegedly attacked with eggs while being taken to court by police after his arrest in a separate case.
The BJP had not immediately responded to Moitra’s allegations at the time of publication.
