Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav said on Wednesday that investments by the Torrent Group in the state’s energy sector would strengthen power generation and create more than 15,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities.
CM made the remarks after meeting Torrent Group Chairman Samir Mehta in Ahmedabad. According to the state government, the group has projects worth more than Rs 43,000 crore either under development or in operation in Madhya Pradesh.
A major project is a proposed 1,600 MW ultra-supercritical thermal power plant in Anuppur district, involving an investment of about Rs 22,000 crore. The government said a power purchase agreement was signed with Madhya Pradesh Power Management Company Ltd on January 27, 2026. Land acquisition has been completed, while pre-construction activities are under way.
The group is also developing a 1,500 MW pumped-storage project in Chhindwara, with a proposed investment of Rs 7,500 crore. Wind power projects totalling 250 MW are planned in Ratlam and Ujjain, while a 36 MW wind unit is already operating in Mandsaur.
Another 800 MW ultra-supercritical thermal power project, involving an estimated Rs 11,000 crore investment, is also being developed, according to the government.
CM invited Torrent Power to participate in the state’s proposed 2,800 MW thermal power procurement process.
The group also operates a US Food and Drug Administration-approved pharmaceutical manufacturing unit in Pithampur, Dhar, which has an investment of Rs 300 crore and employs more than 400 people, the government said.
