Bhopal: The National Law Institute University (NLIU), Bhopal, marked India’s 80th Independence Day with a flag-hoisting ceremony, followed by the fifth edition of its annual blood donation drive organised by the NLIU Sports Committee in collaboration with the Indian Red Cross Society.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) S. Surya Prakash hoisted the national flag on the university campus. Faculty members, students and administrative staff attended the ceremony and joined in the national anthem.
The blood donation drive was held at the NLIU Health Centre from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Organisers said the event recorded its highest participation across its five editions.
Held under the theme “Give Blood, Give Life”, the drive was open to donors of all blood groups. Students and administrative staff took part in the initiative. Medical personnel from the Indian Red Cross Society conducted the screening and blood collection in accordance with standard procedures.
The drive was coordinated by NLIU Sports Committee Convenor Vivek Rajurkar and Co-Convenor Kshitij Choudhary, who have been associated with the event since its beginning.
Organisers attributed the higher participation this year to continued outreach and increased awareness among students about voluntary blood donation.
The organisers said holding the drive on Independence Day gave students and staff an opportunity to mark the occasion through community service. Blood donation initiatives can help support local blood supplies and assist patients requiring transfusions.
The event also highlighted NLIU’s involvement in community welfare activities beyond academics. The Sports Committee said the annual drive would continue as part of the university’s calendar in partnership with the Indian Red Cross Society.
According to the organisers, the blood collected during the drive will be made available for patients in need across Bhopal.
