The Gujarat government has reportedly approved a proposal to allot a 978-square-metre plot in Vadodara to Trinamool Congress MP and former cricketer Yusuf Pathan, according to media reports. The land, located next to his residence in the Tandalja area, has been at the centre of a dispute for several years.
The state government has issued the necessary orders to the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC). The proposal is expected to be placed before the civic body’s standing committee for further approval. The final amount payable by Pathan has not yet been confirmed.
The plot’s estimated value is Rs 20.53 crore, based on a rate of Rs 2.10 lakh per square metre. The amount and conditions of allotment will be determined after the civic body examines the government’s order.
Pathan first approached the municipal corporation in 2012, seeking allotment of the land. A proposal to grant it on a 99-year lease without a public auction was considered but rejected by the state government in 2014.
In 2024, the civic body initiated action concerning alleged encroachment on the plot. Pathan challenged the decision in the Gujarat High Court.
The High Court dismissed his petition in 2025, following which he filed an appeal. During subsequent proceedings, the court raised questions about the occupation of the land without formal allotment and payment.
According to media reports, Pathan withdrew his appeal in August 2026. The latest approval is a further development in the case, but the allotment process remains subject to the required civic approval.
