BJP Mocks Rahul Gandhi Over Vietnam Trip

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken a swipe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his reported visit to Vietnam, prompting a response from the Congress, according to media reports.

The BJP reportedly shared a video on its official X account that appeared to show Gandhi seated in an aircraft cabin. The party used the post to criticise him amid protests by Congress and other INDIA bloc parties over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

The Congress defended Gandhi’s reported trip, saying he was entitled to travel during his personal time alongside his responsibilities as the Leader of the Opposition.

Sandeep Dikshit, chairperson of Rachnatmak Congress, told ANI that Gandhi had a personal life and used his overseas visits to engage with students and intellectuals. He also questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s interactions with the media.

The reported trip followed Gandhi’s participation in the Congress’s Save Goa March, held ahead of the state’s assembly elections scheduled for next year.

The political exchange comes amid opposition protests over the electoral roll revision process. On 12 October, Congress and other INDIA bloc leaders held a March for Democracy towards the Supreme Court and submitted a petition concerning the SIR exercise, according to media reports.

Opposition parties have raised concerns about the revision process, while the BJP has criticised the opposition’s approach.

The latest exchange reflects continuing political tensions between the BJP and Congress over electoral issues and the activities of their senior leaders.
