Dhirendra Shastri Urges Fair Probe Into Ram Temple Donation Case

Dhirendra Krishna Shastri, head priest of Bageshwar Dham, on Tuesday called for a fair investigation into the alleged Ram Temple donation case, saying the authorities should be allowed to complete their work without interference.

Speaking to reporters during the inauguration of a cancer healer centre in Habibganj, Bhopal, Shastri said the alleged incident had hurt the sentiments of millions of devotees. He said those found guilty would face “severe punishment” and that the matter was linked to the faith of the wider Sanatan community.

When asked about reports linking senior religious leaders and organisations to the case, Shastri said he was not aware of the details. He said the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and other agencies were already examining the matter and should be allowed to conduct an impartial investigation.

Responding to criticism of the issue from abroad, Shastri said followers of the Sanatan tradition across the world were concerned. He added that he had also referred to the matter during his recent visit to Jakarta.

On the question of bringing all temples under the control of Shankaracharyas, Shastri said forces opposed to Sanatan traditions were creating situations that raised questions about temples and saints. He said the responsibility of managing temples should remain with people devoted to Sanatan traditions, Vaishnav practices and temple service.

Shastri also referred to Indonesia while speaking about religious harmony. He said Indian Muslims should visit the country to see how people who offer five daily prayers also celebrate Diwali and attend Ram Katha programmes. He presented the example as a model of peaceful coexistence.

Replying to a question on the widely discussed Siya-Ketan case from Pune, Shastri said the growing number of crimes reflected a decline in moral values. He said laws could punish offenders, but strong family values and social ethics were equally important in preventing crime.

Asked about the alleged NEET paper leak, he said any decision taken should be in the interest of the country and society.

Shastri declined to comment on political protests, saying politics was not his subject. He said he would continue to speak on matters related to religion, Hindu traditions and the country, but not on political disputes.
