MP Government Raises Pay of 1 Lakh Contract Employees by 4.46%

Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh government has approved a 4.46 per cent annual increase in the remuneration of contract employees, providing relief to around one lakh officers and staff working on contract across the state.

The Finance Department issued an order on Monday stating that the revised remuneration will be effective from 1 April 2026. The increase has been approved under the state’s contract employment policy introduced on 22 July 2023.

According to the policy, annual remuneration of contract employees is revised on the basis of the Consumer Price Index (CPI). For the financial year 2026-27, the increase has been fixed at 4.46 per cent. Last year, the increase was 2.94 per cent.

Contract Employees’ Association state president Ramesh Rathore said the decision would lead to an increase of around Rs 1,000 to Rs 3,800 per month, depending on the employee’s pay level. He said the association had been seeking revision of remuneration in line with CPI-based inflation.

The 2023 policy brought uniformity in remuneration for employees working on equivalent contract posts across different departments. Before the policy came into force, employees holding similar positions often received different salaries depending on the department.

At present, remuneration for contract employees ranges from Rs 21,800 to Rs 70,000 per month. The latest increase will be calculated on these existing pay levels.

Officials said the benefit will not cover all contract employees in the state. While nearly 1.5 lakh contract officers and employees are working in various departments, the 2023 policy has not yet been implemented everywhere. As a result, around one lakh employees are expected to receive the benefit immediately.

The Contract Employees’ Association has urged the government to extend the policy to the remaining departments so that all eligible contract workers can receive the revised remuneration.
