Gwalior: Officials have solved the case of a 16-year-old schoolgirl whose body was found on railway tracks in June, saying she died by suicide after alleged blackmail and threats from an accused in a previous sexual assault case.
The incident took place on 14 June in the Jhansi Road area when the girl was found dead on the tracks. Initial inquiry indicated she had jumped in front of a train.
Officials said the accused, earlier booked under sexual assault laws and later released on bail, repeatedly pressured her to withdraw the case and maintain contact. He allegedly provided her with a mobile phone and threatened to kill her brother and defame her if she did not comply.
Investigators said the harassment continued for several months and caused severe mental distress, which they believe led to the suicide.
Action has been taken against the accused on charges of abetment to suicide. He has been arrested, and further investigation is underway.
Weeks earlier, the girl had been rescued along with her sister after they went missing. A sexual assault case was later registered based on their statements.
