Bhopal, May 14: Public representatives and civic officials participated in a cleanliness and water conservation drive in Bhopal on Thursday under the Jal Ganga Conservation Campaign aimed at protecting and reviving water sources across Madhya Pradesh.
State Sports and Youth Welfare and Cooperative Minister Vishvas Kailash Sarang, Mayor Malti Rai and Municipal Commissioner Sanskriti Jain joined a shramdaan programme at an ancient stepwell in Dwarka Nagar under Ward No. 36.
During the drive, the leaders and civic officials removed garbage from the stepwell and cleaned staircases and surrounding areas. Sanitation workers and municipal staff also participated in the campaign to restore and preserve the traditional water structure.
Addressing the gathering, Vishvas Kailash Sarang said the Jal Ganga campaign reflects a commitment to securing water resources for future generations. He urged citizens to conserve water, protect water bodies and fulfil their responsibility towards nature and environmental conservation.
As part of the Namaste Campaign, the minister, mayor and municipal commissioner distributed PPE kits to sanitation workers and honoured them for their contribution towards maintaining city cleanliness. The kits included rain protection gear considering the approaching monsoon season.
Several public representatives and officials attended the programme, including Additional Commissioner Tanmay Vashisht Sharma, Mayor-in-Council member Ashok Vani, Zone President Suryakant Gupta, corporators Vandana Hemraj Kushwah and Gauri Nitin Pathak, Superintending Engineer Udit Garg and other citizens and civic staff members.
In another programme held at Naveen Nagar under Ward No. 39, Vishvas Kailash Sarang and Malti Rai distributed PPE kits to sanitation workers and appreciated their contribution to maintaining cleanliness in the city.

The PPE kits distributed under the Namaste Scheme also included raincoats for use during the monsoon season. Public representatives, including Mayor-in-Council member Anand Agrawal and corporators Rehan Siddiqui and Masarrat Babu Mastan, were present during the distribution programme.
