Twisha Sharma death case: MP govt recommends CBI probe, husband still missing
The Madhya Pradesh government has recommended a CBI inquiry into the death of Twisha Sharma in Bhopal.
Twisha, a woman in her 30s from Noida, died on May 12 at her matrimonial home in Bagh Mugalia Extension. Her family has alleged dowry harassment and physical assault.
Family members claimed they saw injury marks on her body. They also alleged that Twisha spoke about abuse by her husband before her death.
The case gained attention after several developments surfaced online. These included alleged CCTV footage, WhatsApp chats and the disappearance of her husband, Samarth Singh.
Bhopal Police registered an FIR against Samarth Singh and his mother, Giribala Singh, under Section 80(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to dowry death.
Bhopal Police Commissioner Sanjay Kumar Singh said officers are continuing the investigation. Police teams are also searching for Samarth Singh, who remains untraceable.
“The Twisha Sharma death case has triggered questions about alleged harassment, accountability and the events leading to her death.”
The controversy deepened after Giribala Singh spoke to several media outlets. In her statements, she raised allegations about Twisha’s mental health and personal life.
She claimed Twisha underwent psychiatric counselling and took medication linked to schizophrenia treatment. She also alleged that Twisha struggled emotionally after moving to Bhopal.
Many social media users criticised the remarks. Women’s rights groups and online users accused the family of victim-blaming and character assassination.
Twisha’s family rejected all allegations related to her mental health and personal conduct. They demanded an independent and fair investigation into the case.
The state government later decided to recommend a CBI probe amid rising public pressure and political attention.
