JABALPUR: An eight-day-old baby girl from Shahdol was airlifted to Mumbai on Thursday after doctors diagnosed a congenital heart defect requiring urgent specialised treatment.
The infant’s condition deteriorated shortly after birth, prompting her family to take her to the Government Medical College in Jabalpur. Medical examinations confirmed that she was suffering from a serious congenital heart defect, requiring urgent specialised treatment at a higher medical centre.
Following the diagnosis, doctors arranged for the newborn to be shifted to Narayana Hospital by air ambulance.
Officials said the baby had been admitted to the medical college two days earlier. As her condition worsened, specialists conducted further tests and confirmed the critical cardiac disorder. Arrangements for the air ambulance were subsequently made on priority.
Doctors stated that delays in treatment could have further endangered the infant’s life. A detailed medical report was prepared before the transfer.
According to officials, coordination was established between health authorities in Shahdol and the Mumbai hospital to facilitate the treatment process. All formalities were completed on Thursday before the infant was airlifted.
The transfer and treatment arrangements were carried out under the Chief Minister Bal Hriday Upchar Yojana and the PM-JAY health scheme.
