Heatwave Relief: Madhya Pradesh Extends Summer Break for Teachers Until June 7

Teachers Get Extra Week Off as Madhya Pradesh Extends Summer Vacation

In a move aimed at protecting staff from extreme weather conditions, the Madhya Pradesh government has extended the MP teachers summer vacation until June 7, following persistent heatwave conditions across the state.

The Directorate of Public Instruction (DPI), Bhopal, issued an order on May 30 stating that the revised schedule applies to teachers across government schools. The decision comes as temperatures in several districts continue to exceed 45°C, raising concerns over health and workplace safety.

According to the order, teachers who were previously required to report for duties during the vacation period will now remain on summer break from May 1 to June 7. Officials said the extension was necessary because of unusually high temperatures and ongoing heatwave conditions affecting large parts of Madhya Pradesh.

The department noted that many teachers have been engaged in census-related assignments and board examination work during the vacation period. Given the weather conditions, authorities decided to revise the earlier academic calendar issued in March for the 2026–27 academic session.

The government order highlights that several districts have been recording temperatures above 45°C. Education officials said the extension was approved to safeguard the health and well-being of teaching staff working in challenging climatic conditions.

The revised directive applies specifically to teachers. Other scheduled holidays, including Dussehra, Diwali and winter vacations, will remain unchanged.

Education department officials said district-level authorities have been informed and instructed to implement the revised schedule immediately.

The decision is likely to bring relief to thousands of teachers across the state who were expected to resume duties during one of the hottest periods of the year.
