MP Cabinet clears property registration drive, stitched uniforms for students

BHOPAL: The Madhya Pradesh Cabinet on Tuesday approved a series of key decisions, including a property registration drive covering millions of residents under the Swamitva Scheme and the supply of stitched uniforms to students in government schools, according to media reports.

The decisions were taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav.

According to media reports, around 4.68 crore private properties and nearly 19 lakh government properties have been identified through drone and satellite surveys across 55 districts. The state government will bear registration fees and panchayat cess for beneficiaries, with the exercise expected to cost about Rs 3,800 crore.

The government said registered ownership documents would help residents access bank loans and other services more easily. Media reports said Madhya Pradesh has claimed it will be the first state to undertake such a large-scale registration exercise under the scheme.

The Cabinet also approved a proposal to provide stitched uniforms to students from Classes 1 to 8 studying in government schools. At present, students receive Rs 600 through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to purchase uniforms. According to media reports, the new system has been introduced following complaints regarding implementation of the existing arrangement.

The Cabinet reviewed wheat procurement and was informed that Madhya Pradesh recorded the highest procurement in the country during the current season, media reports said. It also discussed consultations on the proposed Uniform Civil Code, with public suggestions set to be accepted until July 30.

Among other decisions, the Cabinet approved a judicial inquiry into the Bargi Dam boat accident, granted tax-free status to the Hindi film Tanvi The Great, cleared proposals related to increasing MBBS seats and new medical colleges, and revised the cost of the district court project at Pipliyahana in Indore from Rs 400 crore to Rs 626 crore, according to media reports.
