On-Field Tensions Flare After India ‘A’ Super Over Loss

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was involved in a heated exchange with a Sri Lanka ‘A’ fielder after India ‘A’ lost a tense Super Over contest on Monday.

Sooryavanshi, who scored 21 off 14 balls, pushed an opposition player following the final ball of the Super Over bowled by Kugathas Mathulan. India ‘A’ were effectively out of the contest at that stage, needing eight runs off the final delivery.

The situation escalated briefly before Niroshan Dickwella intervened to separate the players and defuse tensions on the field. Players from both sides later completed the customary post-match handshakes, though Sooryavanshi initially appeared agitated before being guided away by teammates.

The match had already seen several flashpoints. India ‘A’ captain Tilak Varma was involved in repeated exchanges with on-field umpires, first over light conditions and later over a no-ball decision during the Super Over.

Sooryavanshi’s reaction followed a disappointing batting performance and added to a series of tense moments in a closely fought contest.

He has previously been involved in a disciplinary flashpoint, including an on-field altercation during the U19 Asia Cup final last year following his dismissal.
