Minister Calls for Rehabilitation Before Encroachment Removal

BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh minister Vishvas Sarang on Wednesday directed officials to ensure the rehabilitation of families affected by a proposed encroachment removal drive in Nayapura before any demolition is carried out for a 10-lane road project.

Officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the Bhopal Municipal Corporation, district administration and police had reached the area near Central Jail to begin action against encroachments linked to the road widening project. The proposed drive is expected to affect several families living in the locality.

After learning about the planned operation, Sarang, who represents the area, visited the site and reviewed the situation with officials. He instructed authorities to provide alternative plots and housing arrangements to affected residents before relocation.

The minister said development projects should be implemented without compromising the interests and livelihoods of economically weaker families. He stressed that no family should face homelessness as a result of the project.

Sarang also directed officials to ensure that the relocation process is carried out smoothly and with dignity. Affected residents will be given at least one week to prepare for shifting, while NHAI will assist in the process.

He further asked officials to provide land close to residents’ existing neighbourhoods to minimise disruption to education, employment and daily life.
