Indian stock markets will remain closed on Friday, June 26, in observance of Muharram, giving traders and investors a three-day weekend.
Both major stock exchanges have designated the day as a trading holiday. As a result, there will be no trading activity in the equity market or related segments.
Trading in equity derivatives, currency derivatives, Securities Lending and Borrowing (SLB) and Electronic Gold Receipts (EGR) will also remain suspended for the day.
The holiday falls on a Friday, extending the market break as exchanges are already closed on Saturdays and Sundays. Trading will resume on Monday, June 29, following the regular schedule.
On normal trading days, the stock market operates from 9:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with a pre-open session from 9:00 a.m. to 9:15 a.m.
After the Muharram holiday, the next scheduled market closure will be on September 14 for Ganesh Chaturthi. Other trading holidays later in the year include Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti on October 2, Dussehra on October 20, Diwali-Balipratipada on November 10, Prakash Gurpurb Sri Guru Nanak Dev on November 24 and Christmas on December 25.
Investors are advised to plan their trades accordingly, with market activity resuming on June 29 after the extended weekend.
