INDORE: The Shillong High Court has upheld the conditional bail granted to Sonam Raghuvanshi in connection with the Raja Raghuvanshi case, dismissing a plea by the Shillong Police seeking cancellation of her bail.
Sonam Raghuvanshi is among the accused in the case related to the death of Indore-based transport businessman Raja Raghuvanshi. Police have alleged that she and several others were involved in the incident. She remains on bail, and the case is pending before the court.
Sonam was granted conditional bail in April. The Shillong Police later approached the High Court to seek cancellation of her bail. After hearing submissions from both sides, the court reserved its order before ruling on Monday that her bail would continue, subject to the existing conditions.
The court said Sonam must not contact or influence witnesses or interfere with evidence. She must appear before the court whenever required, cannot leave the court’s jurisdiction without prior permission, and must furnish a personal bond of 50,000 rupees.
The order has disappointed Raja Raghuvanshi’s family. His elder brother, Vipin Raghuvanshi, has previously expressed concerns about the family’s safety and has called for an investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
In an earlier interview with a local television channel in Shillong, Sonam denied reports that she had travelled to Nepal after being granted bail. She said the claims were false and appealed to the public not to believe rumours.
The criminal proceedings remain ongoing, and the allegations against all the accused have not been tested or decided by the court.
