IPL 2027 Auction Likely in Goa on December 16

NEW DELHI: The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2027 players’ auction is likely to be held in Goa on December 16, marking the event’s return to India after three consecutive editions overseas.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia had said in September that Goa would host the auction in December. However, the date is yet to be officially confirmed.

The auction was held in Dubai in 2023, Jeddah in 2024 and Abu Dhabi in 2025. The upcoming event is expected to be a mini-auction, with franchises likely to submit their lists of retained and released players by November 15.

The proposed date coincides with India’s scheduled ODI against Sri Lanka in Bengaluru.

Meanwhile, the BCCI is seeking feedback from IPL franchises on the Impact Player rule, which allows teams to introduce a substitute during a match. The rule has faced criticism from several prominent players, with concerns that it reduces the role of genuine all-rounders.

The board is expected to consult stakeholders before deciding on the rule’s future.
