Bhopal Steps Up Dengue, Malaria Prevention Drive

The District Malaria Office has intensified its campaign to prevent dengue, chikungunya and malaria across Bhopal through large-scale surveys, larva control measures and public awareness programmes.

Officials said that from January to July 9, health teams surveyed 224,434 houses. Mosquito larvae were found in 5,269 houses. A total of 1,647,992 water containers were inspected, with larvae detected in 5,776 containers. Of these, 2,181 containers were emptied, while larvicide was added to 3,595 containers to stop mosquito breeding.

During the same period, 121,039 people were tested for malaria, with four cases confirmed. Health teams also tested 2,730 suspected dengue patients, of whom 44 were found positive. In addition, 615 suspected chikungunya patients were screened, and nine cases were confirmed.

The department said malaria teams carried out larva surveys in all city zones and organised awareness activities at schools, anganwadi centres and community health clinics. The campaign focuses on encouraging residents to remove stagnant water, maintain cleanliness and take steps to prevent mosquito breeding.

From July 9, a special awareness campaign will also be conducted in 35 tribal hostels to educate students about the prevention of mosquito-borne diseases.

The District Malaria Office said survey, awareness and prevention activities will continue across different parts of the city during the monsoon season to reduce the risk of dengue, chikungunya and malaria.
