BHOPAL: A state minister pulled up civic officials during a visit to a residential area in Bhopal after residents complained about an unresolved drainage problem that they said has caused dirty water to enter their homes.
Residents said the issue has continued for a long time and becomes worse during the monsoon, with drain water flooding houses despite repeated complaints.
During the inspection, the minister asked officials why a drainage project approved about two years ago had still not been completed. Dissatisfied with their response, he said delays in completing publicly funded projects were unacceptable and directed officials to explain the delay.
The minister instructed officials to resolve the problem without delay and warned that strict action would be taken if negligence was found. He also said an FIR could be registered against the employee concerned if warranted following an inquiry.
Officials were directed to complete the pending work within the stipulated time and ensure residents do not face further hardship. The minister said negligence in works related to basic public services would not be tolerated.
