MP Sets Benchmark in Urban Housing Under PMAY-U Scheme

BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh has emerged as a leading state in the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), with over 10 lakh houses sanctioned under the scheme, Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav said on Friday.

He said the state’s focus on providing permanent housing to every eligible urban household has led to significant progress in execution and delivery under the programme.

According to Urban Development and Housing Department Commissioner Sanket Bhondve, Madhya Pradesh has secured the top position in the country in terms of the “grounding” of sanctioned houses under the scheme. He said 98.04 percent of approved houses have been grounded for construction, reflecting what officials described as effective monitoring and time-bound implementation.

Bhondve added that more than nine lakh houses have already been completed and handed over to beneficiaries. He said the initiative has enabled thousands of families to fulfil their aspiration of owning a permanent home, contributing to improved living standards, social security and dignity.

The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) aims to provide affordable and secure housing to economically weaker sections, low-income groups and middle-income urban families, with financial assistance for construction along with basic civic amenities.

Officials said the state government continues to prioritise timely completion and quality monitoring of housing projects. They added that the scheme has also contributed to employment generation and urban infrastructure development across Madhya Pradesh.

The government said efforts will continue to ensure that all eligible urban families receive the benefits of the scheme in a time-bound manner.
