BHOPAL: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday secured five days’ police custody of actor and model Twisha Sharma’s husband, Samarth Singh, and mother-in-law, retired judge Giribala Singh, in connection with the investigation into her death.
The accused were produced before a special CBI court after investigators alleged they had failed to cooperate and had given contradictory statements during questioning. The court granted the agency’s plea for custodial interrogation. The defence did not oppose the application.
Samarth Singh had earlier spent seven days in CBI custody before being produced in court again after the previous remand expired.
According to media reports, investigators plan to conduct face-to-face questioning of the accused to verify inconsistencies in their statements and reconstruct the sequence of events leading up to Sharma’s death. Officials are also examining Samarth Singh’s movements during the period he was allegedly absconding.
Media reports said the CBI is recreating Sharma’s final hours using CCTV footage, mobile phone records, Wi-Fi logs, call detail records and forensic mapping of the family’s residence. Investigators are reportedly preparing a detailed timeline of movements inside the house before and after the incident.
The agency is also examining allegations of evidence tampering and analysing digital records, including internet activity and camera timestamps.
The probe further includes allegations of dowry harassment and pressure on Sharma to transfer company shares worth nearly Rs 20 lakh, according to media reports.
Meanwhile, Sharma’s ashes were immersed in the Ganga at Triveni Ghat in Rishikesh on Friday. Her father, Navnidhi Sharma, said the family would continue its fight for justice. The investigation is ongoing.
