MANDLA: A male tiger identified as T-220, also known as ‘Mahavir Male’, was found dead on Tuesday morning in the Mohgaon beat of the Mukki range in Kanha Tiger Reserve, forest officials said.
A patrolling team had spotted the tiger in an injured and ailing condition shortly before its death. Reserve authorities and forest department officials launched an investigation under National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) protocols.
A post-mortem examination found injury marks on the tiger’s body and signs of severe lung infection. Officials said the infection is suspected to be a possible cause of death. Viscera and other samples have been preserved for forensic examination.
Forest officials said all body parts, including claws, canine teeth and whiskers, were found intact, with no immediate signs of poaching. A dog squad also inspected the site, but no suspicious evidence was reported.
Following the post-mortem, the carcass was cremated as per NTCA guidelines in the presence of senior forest officials and members of the authorised disposal committee. Officials said further details are expected after the forensic report is received.
